As part of our Safe, Caring, and Inclusive Schools, we share a collective responsibility to address reported situations of bullying and to prevent them whenever possible. Our priority is the safety of the impacted student, as well as gaining a clear understanding of the situation so we can work together to respond appropriately and nurture a safe and caring learning environment.
If a student is experiencing bullying, they may report it directly to their classroom teacher, the supervision teacher, the child and youth worker, the principal, or any member of the Vista Hills staff. If a student is uncomfortable reporting, they may share their concerns with a parent or peer, who can then bring the information to the principal or another school staff member.
The school has a responsibility to investigate all reported cases of bullying. We always gather information before determining an action plan and work closely with parents as we learn more about the situation and decide on next steps.
Through our Health Education curriculum and ongoing classroom support, we help students develop a clear and shared understanding of what bullying is, while fostering a collective responsibility within our school community to act kindly and challenge unfair or unkind behaviours.
We are committed to the belief that we are all learners and that everyone deserves respect and the opportunity to grow. For more information, please visit the Waterloo Region District School Board Bullying Prevention and Intervention website.
